Fall Sports

Varsity Football

 

Tim Conley

Coach Conley has been a teacher and coach for 26 years. He began his career in athletics as a student at Troy High School.  As a sophomore in 1998, he was on Troy’s state runner-up football team. As a senior, he was captain.  That year he also was a state wrestling qualifier and captain of Troy’s wrestling team. From Troy, it was on to Michigan State University where he graduated in 1992 with a degree in Education majoring in Spanish and History.  While at MSU Coach Conley wrestled and was a varsity letter winner as well as Academic All-Big 10 in 1991.  After graduation, it was back to Troy where he served as a teacher and assisted with football at Troy High School (highlighted by a state title in 1994) and coached wrestling at Troy Athens (highlighted by 5 MHSAA district titles).

In 1995, Coach Conley began teaching Spanish at Detroit Northern High School.  Three years later he joined the staff at Southfield High School (which is now Southfield High School for the Arts and Technology) where he continues to teach history and world languages. He currently he serves as the World Language Department Head for Southfield High School for the Arts and Technology.

During his 18 years as a coach for the “Bluejays”, Coach Conley established many “firsts” in Southfield Public School Athletics.  This includes three OAA league and three MHSAA district titles in wrestling as well as two Oakland County Individual wrestling champions (Doug Moore and Randy Daugherty).  As head football coach, his teams earned 5 MHSAA district and 2 regional titles as well as 9 awards from the Michigan High School Football Coaches Association for excellence in team academics.

Coach Conley has also been recognized by his peers in receiving numerous awards and selections which include OAA Wrestling Coach of the Year in ’98,’99 and 2015; Regional Wrestling Coach of the Year in ’95; Eccentric and Oakland Press Football Coach of the Year in ’08, Michigan High School Regional Coach of the Year ’08,’09, and 2011 and MHSFCA All Star Game Coach 2013.

For the past two years Coach Conley has served as Head Football and Track Coach at Southfield High School for the Arts and Technology. During this time, Coach Conley’s determination and hard work has resulted in a MHSAA Football District and OAA Red Division Championships ’16 and two academic all-state awards for football from the MHSFCA. Also in two years while coaching both sports; Coach Conley has helped develop eleven all-state athletes and 32 individuals that have received scholarships to continue participation in athletics in college.

A Virtuous Christian Woman married to her High School sweetheart, husband Michael Love Sr. of 33 years, who has been a strong constant force behind her career. Mother to 4 amazing children who ALL attended Southfield School system.  Michael Jr., Aaron ( Ex-Pro Footballl player), Andrew, and Amanda. Love became a grandmother for the first time, when her son Aaron and Meagan Love gave birth to their son Ami' James Michael Love. Now Son Michael Jr.and his wife Alisha#2  is working on my second...She says, one of her greatest accomplishments is " being a grandmother"...

Son Michael Love Jr. She is also a certified personal/athletic trainer centered out of Beech Woods Fitness Center, where she was as employed until 9/2018\

And still finds time to Coach Middle School, at Thompson in Southfield with Daughter Amanda, when she is not playing professionally.

Her wealth of volleyball knowledge comes from years of experience with the game which has allowed her to be one of the most respected coaches in Michigan. Who has coached several young women who have gone on to play at the collegiate levels, and professional
level. Her passion for teaching and training at the optimal level is known and well respected by her peers. Love, has the ability to pull out of athletes some coaches find hard to do... She is a relentless, passionate, and unorthodox coach who teaches great life lessons.

As 
player Love was a 4 year starter/captain at Detroit Henry Ford High School where she was able to receive a full volleyball scholarship to North Carolina. Missing her home in Michigan she soon returned and started a family. Schoolcraft College is where she decided to finish her career, leading the Lady Ocelots to a 1988 NJCAA National Championship. Later Love became the Asst. Coach at Schoolcraft for 4 years. She began playing professionally in 1989 but a knee injury shortened her career. 

In 1990 she started coaching at Livonia Clarenceville High School where she won 8 Leagues, 5 District and 2 State Regional titles. After taking 2 years off, she took a struggling Southfield High program and quickly turned them into a championship program. Winning 3 League, 4 District and 1 State regional title in her 5 years. 

During her 36 years as a Head Coach, Love has won over 1150 matches and 16 Coaches of the Year honors. She also coached the 2006 Michigan H.S
All State
East Squad. 
Assistant Coach to son Michael when he
was at Mary Grove College 2011-2013 and later a consultant to son Michael who is now the Head Coach of Harrison HS 2013- to present.

  Coach at Chandler Park Academy and took a struggling team to a 14-0 record in their first season and being recognized as " Coach of the Year" 2017

Coach Larry Nunnery is a product of Detroit Public Schools graduating from the former Kettering High School in Detroit. He found his passion for swimming in high school which afforded him the opportunity to attend Tuskegee University; as a member of the Golden Tigers’ Swim Team. He was employed as a corrections officer (C.O.) and while working earned his BA in Criminal Justice from Madonna College.  With a strong work ethic, educational prowess, and with ability to form conducive bonds with people from all walks of life broke down barriers of racial discrimination and propelled him through the ranks to Resident Unit Manager (R.U.M.) all while facing discrimination on the job from staff and inmates.  He finally retired after serving 34.5 years with Michigan Department of Corrections, all while supporting his 2 sons swimming careers; one of whom swam for the Howard University Swim Team. He founded the Detroit Tiger Sharks Swim Team and Detroit United Swim Team; and for the past 15 years he has taken an elite group of swimmers to North Carolina at the National Black Heritage Swim Meet.  Throughout his 35+ years of coaching countless swimmers achieved swimming scholarships, college degrees, and entered military service.  He have coached Southfield A&T and University High School Prep Academy for the past 10 and motivating his swimmers to give their all;

Coach Steve Motter began his coaching adventure at his Alma Mater, Ferndale High School in 1995 as a volunteer assistant. In 1997 Steve was hired as the Assistant Varsity coach and by 1998 he was the Varsity coach. In 2011 Coach Motter became the Varsity Boys and Girls Soccer coach at Capac High School. In Steve's time as the Varsity soccer coach at Ferndale, the Boys soccer program won 2 District Championships, while winning the league championship 3 times. The Girls program won 1 District Championship, while winning the league once. Coach Motter was named Oakland Activities Association Coach of the Year in 2003 and 2009. He was privileged to be the coach for the Inaugural season of both the Boys and Girls Soccer teams at Southfield A&T where we are working to build a Tradition of Excellence.

 

Coach Motter lives in Chesterfield, Michigan with his wife Suzianne Motter and 10 year old son, Liam. He also has one dog, Finnley. Two cats, Pavel and Wrigley. And a Bearded Dragon, Tarzan-Rex. When Steve is not coaching he enjoys playing Disc Golf, collecting and reading comic books, and going to concerts and festivals.

Jamie Glinz

Jamie Glinz is a graduate of Southfield Public Schools graduating from Southfield High in 2000 where he lettered in Basketball, Baseball, Soccer, Football, and Tennis.  He holds the record in Southfield Public Schools graduating with 17 varsity letters.  He played collegiate baseball at the University of Detroit Mercy.

Coach Glinz has coached 4 varsity sports since returning to Southfield Public Schools.  He coached Varsity Girl´s Basketball, Varsity Baseball and Varsity Softball at Southfield High School.  Since the merger of the high schools Coach Glinz has coached Varsity Softball and Varsity Girl´s Golf at Southfield A & T.  He is also very involved in the school as a 9th-grade social studies teacher and student congress advisor.  

Coach Glinz focuses on the fundamentals and character building of each of his players.  His teams GPA´s are usually at the top of the school.  He lead his Girl´s basketball teams and Softball teams to making the Academic All-State teams through the Michigan High School Coaches Association for those respective sports.  He also had 4 girls make the individual Academic All-State team for softball.  In his last 2 years as Varsity Girl? basketball coach at Southfield High, he won the league and was named OAA coach of the year and Detroit Free Press All-North Coach of the Year.  

Coach Glinz is married to his supportive wife Kesha Glinz and is a proud father of two sons Jayden and Jayce.

Eric Moon

Varsity Wrestling Coach, Eric Moon, enters his 4th season as the Warriors leader.  Coach Moon has already set school records in his short tenure and was the OAA White Coach of the Year recipient. His passion for the sport is what has made the Warriors title contenders as of late, but its Coach Moon’s drive to develop strong young men of character is what makes his student participation numbers soar on the mat. 

 

Since taking over the coaching helm at Southfield HS/Southfield A&T, Coach Moons team have won - 1 Individual Oakland County Championship, 1 Oakland County Finalist,  7 State qualifiers in 4 years, 4 all-state athletes in 4 years, 2017 District Champs, 2018 OAA White league Champs,  7th at 2018 Oakland County Championships ( highest in school history), and the 2018 OAA White Conference Coach of the Year. 

 

Coach Moon has been a staple in the wrestling community in Michigan and across the country for over a decade. Since starting coaching in 2006, He has won at every level, including an Individual National Champion while at Lamphere in 2010. Coach Moon’s Club, Michigan Rampage, has also been a driving force for him to help develop wrestlers along the way. Michigan Rampage WC, established in 2006 has finished in the top 8 at  the NHSCA National Dual Championships 6 times. 

 

As an Assistant Coach at Madison Heights-Lamphere HS-from 2006-2012 Coach Moon trained multiple All-State wrestlers, 1 National Champion, 1 All-American, and 1 state finalist. Coach Moon then traveled west to wrestling powerhouse, Grand Rapids Catholic Central. He was there from 2013-2015 before coming to Southfield in the fall of 2015. While at GRCC Coach Moon’s Teams finished as 2x Team State Qualifiers, Set the record for most State Qualifiers in Division 3.(11) 5 State Finalists in 1 season, 4 current D1 wrestlers.
