Wendell Phillips 44 / Southfield A&T 59
When two teams that are athletic and work hard play each other, you know you are going to witness a battle. This was proven to be true in the Phillips vs. Southfield A&T game. Both teams played suffocating defense and went to war on the boards. However, both teams were plagued with turnovers and missed layups. Southfield was able to comfortably maintain the lead until the last 4:00 of the half. Phillips, led by senior point guard Taneil Robertson, went on a 10-4 run and cut their deficit down to one going into halftime. 2020 guard Leilani Murray hit a three-pointer early in the third to give Phillips their first lead of the game. Southfield’s Cheyenne McEvans and Alexis Johnson quickly shifted the momentum by going on a 7-0 run, giving Southfield the lead going into the final quarter. Southfield carries that energy over and walks away with the win.
